Transcontinental Enhances Pre-Press Management System
Improvements aim to reduce production time, increase flexibility.
In an effort to help publishers reduce production time and increase flexibility, Transcontinental Printing has implemented a number of enhancements to its online job submission, preflight and approval management system called the Job Assistant. The improved system features a new interface designed to be more user-friendly and intuitive.
Launched in 2005, the Job Assistant allows users to approve proofs online from any location. The system will now feature a restructured event-based email notification process, designed to give users more control over the job information and to choose the email notifications relevant to them.
Stephanie Hoare, creative director at NJ Family, says the system has shrunk her magazine’s turnaround time—from file delivery to delivery of finished product—from 11 days to eight. Also, “we’ve been able to implement The Job Assistant program without requiring any new hardware or software, which is a huge benefit,” she says.
In addition to the enhancements, Transcontinental has launched the Job Assistant Premium, a combined package that includes three components—Virtual Vue, which allows users to review and approve final files in full three-dimensional rendering; Smart Review Premium, which allows two pages to be reviewed side-by-side and for differences to be identified automatically; and Virtual Edge Proofing, a SWOP-certified, color-matching proofing tool that enables closed-loop color approval.
