Time named Dana Rosen as its new chief legal officer, effective July 29.
As CLO—which CEO and editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal —Rosen will use her years of expertise to oversee all legal matters across the company, as well as manage the brand’s relationships with outside counsel around the world.
Rosen joins the magazine from ALM, where she served as the company’s general counsel for the past five years. For over half her career, Rosen held a general counsel at a media company, including eight years with Wenner Media. She is also the co-leader of WGCN, the National Women’s General Counsel Network.

The New York Times’ Jodi Rudoren was named the new editor-in-chief of The Forward, beginning in September. Rudoren currently serves as the Times’ associate managing editor, a position she’s held for the last year, and is tasked with leading audience strategy. With nearly two decades of experience at the paper, she’s held various roles including Jerusalem bureau chief, Chicago bureau chief, deputy international editor, education editor and deputy Metropolitan editor.
Rudoren fills the vacancy that was created when 28% of the magazine’s staff was laid off earlier this year as a result of the print edition shuttering after 121 years. Included in those layoffs was longtime editor-in-chief Jane Eisner, who held her role since 2008.
ALM hired Jon DiGiambattista as president of information services this week. He joins from Medidata Solutions, where he served as the head of data and analytics and led the strategy for the commercialization of next-generation data products and capabilities for the Life Sciences industry.
In his new role, DiGiambattista will focus on growing ALM’s content and intelligence offerings. Prior to Medidata, he served as the head of global markets for data analytics company Opera Solutions, and as the managing director, risk and performance analytics with financial information services company Fitch Solutions.
Michael Young was promoted to chief technology officer of Reuters, effective Aug. 6. Reporting to president Michael Friedenberg, Young will be tasked with overseeing the brand’s overarching technology strategy, including technology development, architecture, platforms, testing and operational resiliency.
Previously, Young served as the head of digital experience platform for Thomson Reuters, and before that, he was the head of risk development. Prior to joining the company in 2017, he was the CTO for Paycase and Architelos.
As part of Bustle Digital Group’s acquisition of technology media brand Inverse that took place earlier this week, the site’s founder Dave Nemetz will join BDG as its new EVP of Inverse. Nemetz will join president Josh Topolsky, former owner of The Outline that was sold to BDG in March, to lead the company’s growing portfolio of brands, including future projects in the technology space.
Los Angeleno, a new media site covering Los Angeles culture, recruited the former publisher of LA Weekly, Mat Cooperstein to join its staff. Cooperstein had been the publisher of LA Weekly for two years before it was sold in 2017, but started with the company in 2006 as its advertising director. Since then, he founded digital marketing agency Light Up Marketing and served as the director of business development for Flux Branding.
Executive editor Danielle Sacks is leaving her role at Inc. magazine to fill the same position at Medium, where she is planning on launching a business journalism publication. Sacks spent the last four years with Inc., starting as a senior editor, and prior to that, she spent nearly 12 years with Fast Company in various editorial roles.
Bloomberg tapped William Turton for its technology team to cover major hacks and cybersecurity developments.Turton most recently served as a reporter for “Vice News Tonight” on HBO, and prior to that, he covered technology, gaming and cyberattacks for the Daily Dot, Gizmodo and The Outline. He begins his new role on July 29.
Joe Holder, a health and wellness consultant and celebrity trainer, is joining GQ as a fitness contributor, creating content across all of the brand’s platforms, including print, digital and social media.
Industry Dive made several editorial hires this week, raising its newsroom total to 72 staffers:
- Cailin Crowe joined Smart Cities Dive as an associate editor. Recently, Crowe was a reporting intern for The Chronicle of Higher Education, and has previous reporting experience covering business and technology trends.
- Morgan Forde is Supply Chain Dive’s new associate editor. Forde previously was a global supply chain analyst at Gartner, while also working as a freelancer covering international development, innovation and smart cities.
- Education Dive: K-12 named Naaz Modan as its new associate editor. Prior to this, Modan worked as the national communications manager for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and previously contributed opinion pieces for CNN. She also writes for Bustle Digital Group, covering news related to women and millennial mothers.
- Education Dive: Higher Ed hired Shailaja Neelakantan as a reporter. Most recently, Neelakantan covered breaking news and analysis for The Times of India and reported as a South Asia correspondent for The Chronicle of Higher Education.
- CFO Dive tapped Robert Freedman as an editor and Jane Thier as an associate editor. Freedman was most recently with the National Association of Realtors and served as its director of multimedia communications, as well as the senior editor of Realtor Magazine. Thier has most recently covered food for Sauce Magazine as well as mortgage, retirement and finance at SmartAsset.
Forbes announced a series of several promotions and hires this week:
- Robert LaFranco rejoins the brand as the new assistant managing editor for Consumer. LaFranco previously served on both Forbes’ wealth and entertainment teams in the ‘90s, but most recently worked at Bloomberg, where he helped start and lead the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Before that, he was an executive at Warner Music Group, and the LA bureau chief and media editor for the Red Herring.
- Michael Nuñez is the new associate editor, covering social media and Facebook. Most recently, he was the deputy tech editor for Mashable, and before that, he was the tech editor for Gizmodo and Popular Science.
- Marley Coyne was hired as the new assistant editor for the Under 30 franchise. Most recently, Coyne was a Vanity Fair New Establishment fellow and an assistant at the Hearst Design Group.
- Brianne Garrett is joining ForbesWomen and the Small Business franchise as an assistant editor. Garrety previously worked on digital, print and newsletters for Wine Spectator.
- Leah Rosenbaum is the new assistant editor for the Healthcare & Science desk. For the past few years, she freelanced for STAT and Vice’s Tonic.
- Hank Tucker is the new assistant editor for the Money desk. He is a recent graduate from Duke, and previously held internships with Bloomberg and the Raleigh News & Observer. He is succeeding Jon Ponciano, who was promoted to a reporter for the Wealth team.
- Maddie Berg was promoted to staff writer, covering the Hollywood beat. She formerly held Ponciano’s new role. And Amy Feldman was promoted to senior editor from her role as a staff writer.
- Finally, the News Desk added three breaking news reporters. Rachel Sandler, former intern for the San Francisco Business Times, Isabel Togoh, former news reporter for HuffPost UK, and Lisette Voytko, former politics reporter at Gotham Gazette, recently joined the team led by executive editor Kerry Lauerman.
