The magazine, which over the last year saw a change in ownership as well as the departure of its EIC Brian Sweany and executive editor Pamela Colloff, won four awards for its design, including designer of the year to Victoria Millner.
Chicago Magazine followed closely behind Texas Monthly with five awards, including writer of the year to Bryan Smith. Denver’s 5280 magazine and Boston Magazine both got three awards.
General excellence awards went to SagaCity Media’s Sarasota Magazine and Portland Monthly, as well as Genesis Park’s Texas Monthly, in their respective circulation-based categories.
In addition to Texas Monthly, several other former Emmis Communication’s properties saw success after a year of turn over and turmoil. Los Angeles Magazine, which lost its EIC and several others following its sale to Hour Media Group, won an award, as did its fellow Hour publications Atlanta and Cincinnati magazines.
