Rodale Inc. has named Stephen Twilliger executive VP and CFO, effective August 8, the publisher announced today.
Twilliger arrives at Rodale's Emmaus, Pennsylvania, headquarters from Dorling Kindersley (DK), the illustrated reference book publisher and subsidiary of Penguin Random House, where he served in the similar role of VP and CFO and led global finances for the division.
"Steve brings an impressive mix of strategic and analytical experience to his new role," said chairman and CEO Maria Rodale in a statement. "His deep experience in book publishing and children's publishing, a key launch area for us in 2017 … makes him an ideal candidate."
Twilliger replaces Thomas Pogash, who spent 17 years as Rodale's CFO after joining the publisher from the Mack Printing Group in 1999. It's unclear where Pogash is headed, but a Rodale spokesperson characterized the decision to part ways – announced in March – as mutual, and Pogash will stay on through the transition.
A privately-held company, Rodale does not publicly disclose its finances, but it’s likely that Twilliger has his work cut out for him. Since last September, high-level departures, sweeping rounds of layoffs, and financial cutbacks have become a regular thing at the wellness publisher, whose titles include Men’s Health, Prevention, Runner’s World, and Organic Life, among others.
