Platinum Equity Acquires Quark
Firm already working on management transition for Quark.
Digital publishing software company Quark has been acquired by global M&A&O firm Platinum Equity. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Platinum Equity has big plans for Quark, already transitioning the software company to new ownership, according to a press statement. Platinum’s operations team is also already working together with Quark management “to focus on Quark’s core markets and create an acquisition strategy focused on expanding the breadth and depth of Quark’s product capabilities and geographic coverage.”
According to PlanetQuark.com, Platinum Equity is the largest private company in the L.A. area, and Forbes listed them as the 31st largest company in America. There are no plans to merge Quark with any other companies owned by Platinum.
Quark’s portfolio includes QuarkXPress, Quark Publishing System and Quark XML Author. The software aids in publication of content for web, mobile, tablet and social media platforms.
In February, Quark introduced QuarkXPress 9, the latest edition of its graphic design and layout software (this updated version includes an App Studio). According to a Macworld article about the launch, “While over time Quark lost market share to Adobe InDesign in the commercial publishing arena, Quark retained and built on a core base of publishers in the manufacturing and service industries, which pump out a large volume of manuals, catalogs, and corporate materials.”
