A lot of publishers say content is king, but few have given their newsroom leaders charge of the entire company.
Mother Jones did just that, naming Monika Bauerlein its new CEO, elevating her from her role as co-editor. Her other co-editor, Clara Jeffery, was also promoted, named editor-in-chief of the publication.
"Clara and Monika are visionary leaders who have set a new standard for cutting-edge nonprofit journalism," says board chair Phil Straus.
Mother Jones also announced a handful of editorial hires, led by Maria Streshinsky, the magazine’s new deputy editor. Streshinsky had most recently been editor-in-chief of Pacific Standard and had previously served as managing editor of The Atlantic.
Additionally, Aaron Wiener comes over as a senior editor, while Russ Choma and Max Rosenthal will join as staff reporters.
