HMP Communications Holdings, a B2B healthcare media, events, and education company, announced today that it has acquired Imedex, Inc., a privately owned global medical education company.
According to a statement, the acquisition expands the company’s footprint in global markets, and signifies its push toward an “events first” strategy.
Imedex brings an assortment of major medical meetings to HMP, including World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer, the global leading gastrointestinal cancer meeting, Advances in IBD (AIBD), centered on professionals who manage patients with inflammatory bowel diseases; and Lymphoma & Myeloma, a global congress focused on hematological malignancies.
“The acquisition of Imedex aligns perfectly with our strategy and represents an extremely important milestone in our vision as we aim to become the world’s leading producer of healthcare events and education, with a focus on improving patient care,” said Jeff Hennessy, chairman and CEO of HMP in a statement. “Imedex provides the perfect platform on which to expand our portfolio.”
Under completion of the agreement, Imedex will operate as an entirely owned subsidiary of HMP. With headquarters remaining in Alpharetta, GA, Dan Lowrie will assume the title of president of Imedex, and Chris Bolwell will assume the title of executive vice president.
“This is an exciting new chapter for Imedex,” said Dan Lowrie, CEO of Imedex in a statement. “I am enthusiastic about the Imedex leadership— (Dan Lowrie and Chris Bolwell)—joining our company and look forward to working with them to realize the considerable potential of the combined business,” said Hennessy.
Over the past several years, HMP has experienced a period of drastic transformation, starting with the 2008 acquisition of Princeton Media Associates, which doubled the company’s size. About a year ago, Folio: spoke with Jeff Hennessy, chairman and CEO of HMP on the company’s pivot from print-publisher to multi-channel events business.
“In 2010, we made a strong decision to pivot toward live events. We wanted to diversify revenue,” said Hennessy at the time. “Our mission is to grow both organically and through acquisitions.”
Additionally, HMP acquired EMS World from Southcomm in February, which includes EMS World Expo, a leading EMT and paramedic trade show, marking another major acquisition for the company.
