New Shelter Titles Come to Florida
Sarasota, Fla.-based Palm Beach Media Group will launch a new home and design group, Homes & Lifestyles in the three cities. Sarasota Homes & Lifestyles, Palm Beach Homes & Lifestyles and Boca Raton Homes & Lifestyles will simultaneously launch in November and will be mailed to qualified area residents, sold on newsstands and distributed in high-traffic retail outlets and special events throughout the cities.
VNU Europe Launches Site with KnowledgeStorm
VNU Business Media Europe has joined forces with KnowledgeStorm Inc. to launch KnowledgeStorm Europe, an online directory for technology solutions and information. KnowedgeStorm UK will be the first site to launch, with other sites slated to launch in the coming months.
The site will provide the technology industry vendors, as well as VNUE Business Media Europe’s partners, with an opportunity to reach the European business and technology buyers online. Features include product and services information, Web casets, product demos, case studies and whitepapers, along with access to publishing assets of VNU’s tech brands.
One Billionth Copy of Highlights Delivered
Highlights for Children and the U.S. Postal Service delivered the one-billionth copy of Highlights magazine to a young subscriber in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday. The girl, an elementary school child, and her family were presented with the one-billionth copy during a special party celebrating the 60th anniversary of Highlights magazine attended by other children in the Dallas area.
VARBusiness Wins 6 ASBPE Awards
CMP Technology’s VARBusiness won six awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editor’s 28th annual Azbee Awards of Excellence ceremony. Awards included Gold for Best Front Cover of An Annual, Buyer’s Guide, Directory or Supplement for its "The 20th Annual Report Card" issue and Best Feature Series Bronze Award for its "State of the Market" series.
The magazine’s companion title, GovernmentVAR, also won its first ASBPE award, the Northeast regional Gold award in the Case History category for its story entitled "NYPD Tech."
Network Communications Launches New D.C. Shelter Title
Network Communications, Inc. has launched Metro Washington Home Improvement. Published monthly, the new magazine will provide homeowners in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area with information on decorating, design, landscaping, home building, home repair and mainetenence, ideas and products. NCI’s Home Design Division’s portfolio now totals 13 publications, spanning Atlanta, Colorado, St. Louis, Kansas City, Seattle, Las Vegas, Dalls, New England and Washington, D.C. Smithsonian Creates Online Publishing Group
Smithsonian Publishing has expanded its Web division by launching a separate online publishing group to be responsible for content and development of the company’s Web sites, Smithsonian.com, Airandspacemagazine.com, and MySmithsonian.com, which is slated for a January 2007 launch.
Time4 Media’s former online manager for GolfOnline.com, Emily Allen, will become director of the Web division. She will be joined by Kelly Durkin who will assume the role of senior producer, and Thea Joselow who will come on board as content manager.
Industry Launches in Kansas City
Industry Publications has launched its latest edition of Industry in Kansas City, Kan. which will debut in October. The magazines, which are part national, part regional features celebrity cover stories and interviews, and fashion and entertainment trends alongside local coverage of the arts, dining, nightlife and local profiles.
Air & Space Writer Wins Journalism Award
Trudy E. Bell, a regular contributor to Air & Space Smithsonian magazine, has been award the David N. Schramm Award for high-energy astrophysics science journalism. The award, given by the High Energy Astrophysics Division of the American Astronomical Society, was given to Bell for her article, "When Stars Collide," which she wrote for the August-September 2005 issue of Air & Space.
