McMurray Acquires Interactive Agency
Phoenix, Arizona-based custom media company McMurry has acquired Phoenix-based interactive agency Contact Designs. The acquisition is part of McMurry’s goal to strengthen its online media portfolio. Contact has developed more than 1,500 Web sites for various clients since its inception in 1998.
First Quarter Shows 4% Increase in Magazine Launches
According to The Magazine Publishers of America, new magazines launched in the first quarter of 2007, a four percent increase in the first quarter of 2006. Fifteen MPA members announced new titles in the first quarter and have indicated 17 new and forthcoming magazines for the rest of the year.
Entrepreneur Media Launches WomenEntrepreneur.com
Entrepreneur.com has launched WomenEntrepreneur.com, a Web site featuring content exclusively for the women’s business community, written by 30 women columnists and bloggers. The site will also feature an interactive message forum for visitors to ask questions and have dialogue. Visitors can also contribute their own content, posting news, events and press releases about their own business ventures. The site will also feature podcasts, RSS feeds and a opt-in weekly e-newsletter. Video features and slideshows will be released in the coming months.
Food & Wine Launches Wiki Site
American Express Publishing’s Food & Wine magazine has launched a new wiki-based site destination featuring user-generated recommendations on where to eat and shop for food and wine. Food & Wine Across America, which is powered by wiki community site developer, Wetpaint, will also feature articles from the magazine. This is American Express Publishing’s second Wetpaint collaboration following the Executivetravelmagazine.com launch in January.
Southern Progress Corp. Launches Food Portal, Digital Division
Time Inc. subsidiary company Southern Progress Corporation, the company behind Cooking Light, Southern Living, Sunset Cottage Living and Coastal Living magazines, has launched MyRecipes.com, a food and recipe portal featuring recipes, how-to videos and entertaining tips. The portal will feature a recipe finder that contains more than 25,000 recipes and will be updated each month.
The hub is the first portal created by new a new digital division at Southern Progress called SPC Digital.
Entrepreneur to Publish China and Mena Editions
Irvine, California-based Entrepreneur Media Inc. has partnered with IDG to produce Entrepreneur in China. The company has also partnered with K.R.M. Media Ltd. To produce an Arabic edition of the magazine for the Middle East and 22 North African MENA region. All Entrepreneur publications are licensed to use content from their U.S. counterparts and also feature original regional content.
The Chinese edition features a Web site and a trial size of the printed issue is slate for June. The premier issue is set for October. The new magazines will be added to the number of existing international editions produced in Mexico, South Africa, Hungary, Russian and the Philippines.
