Forbes Media is seeking a Social Media Strategist to focus on social media ad products. This person will report to the Director of Social Media and liaise between the editorial and sales departments. Responsibilities include managing pre-sale strategy and post-sale production. The ideal candidates will have extensive sales experience and an in-depth knowledge of all social media platforms.
Concepting for social media campaigns pitches and RFPs
Pitching campaigns to clients
At least 3-4 years of experience in sales and social media at a media company or agency
Expert knowledge of the following platforms: Snapchat, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. “They need to have worked on pretty much every platform that exists…It would be great for them to have had contact and to know people at those platforms,” Gleason says.
Familiarity with Salesforce, Slack, Asana, and Sprinklr.
“They also need to have a wide vocabulary with the sale jargon; they need to know about VPMs and impressions, and customizing packages for advertisers,” Gleason says.
“They need to be a great content strategist and have experience pitching, creating decks, and presenting to clients,” Gleason says.

“It’s really up to the person; since this job is so new, we’re looking for someone with a very entrepreneurial spirit, and someone who can really shape the position. The job description is really a skeleton and then the person who would fill this role would come in and create that path, with me, which would best suit their skills and what they actually want to learn moving forward. Anything from running a larger team, to really anything else they want to explore,” Gleason says.

Timeline: About a month, max.
First Round: The HR team will source candidates from the various applications and then conduct a brief phone interview to see who is a good fit.
Second Round: The candidates will come into the Forbes Media office in Jersey City, New Jersey to meet with Shauna Gleason.
Third Round: Candidates will meet with the VP of digital and the CRO for a final interview.
Do’s & Don’ts
Do: Highlight past accomplishments. “Any type of examples in their experience where they have used both social and sales together, or where they have tried to innovated around the changes in the social space to try to monetize it for clients and advertisers,” Gleason says.
Do: Show an entrepreneurial spirit. “Creating new projects and being proactive are really good things to bring to the table in an interview like this,” Gleason says.
Don’t: Forget the thank you note. “I look for thank you notes and a nice recap of the situation, and how the candidate thinks they would be a good fit for the role,” Gleason says.
