In her current role as Executive Editorial Director, Digital, for Lumina Media, Janine M. Kahn wears the proverbial many hats. She sets the editorial strategy and internal goals for her team, pens custom content sponsorship proposals for advertisers, works on all editorial aspects of site launches and redesigns, runs the in-house trending content program, produces videos, and more.
When asked to describe the shift from her role as editor-in-chief to editorial director, she says “I used to edit content and copy; now I edit people and processes.” Her most recent launch is Lucky Puppy, a rescue-minded sister publication of Dogster, which lives at luckypuppymag.com, and whose print counterpart will be distributed alongside Dogster and Catster Magazines in Q2 of 2016.
Kahn was named a “rising star” by Min in 2013 for her work as editor-in-chief of Dogster.com and Catster.com, two community sites she transformed into online magazines with personality and point-of-view not seen before in pet media. Under her care, the sites averaged a collective audience of 2.5M a month. In 2013, the publications and team were acquired by the company that is now Lumina Media and spun off into award-winning print magazines Dogster and Catster, which replaced Dog Fancy and Cat Fancy.
