As senior VP and publishing director of Hearst Design Group, Kate Kelly Smith is responsible for growing advertising reach for a powerhouse division of Hearst Magazines that includes ELLE DECOR, House Beautiful, and VERANDA.
Renowned for her creativity and fearlessness, Smith has been instrumental in the creation and execution of many new and successful initiatives within the group. This includes the creation of House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year, calling upon the talents of one influential designer to blend culinary innovations and design trends into a spectacular cooking space. The ninth annual Kitchen of the Year will be held this May in Atlanta.
Smith is a true pioneer in the digital space, developing House Beautiful’s concept of “live paper” by bringing fully integrated life across multiple platforms, from print and digital to events that offer clients unique opportunities unmatched by any other brand. First-to-market offerings included Pinterest-enabled ads at Kitchen of the Year in 2012, where visitors were able to scan digital watermarks to pin images directly to Pinterest.
Smith has long been recognized as a respected industry leader. Under Smith’s leadership, House Beautiful has received numerous industry awards in both Adweek and Advertising Age, and also won the American Society of Magazine Editors Award for General Excellence.
