Morris Out at Source Media

Bruce Morris, longtime president of Source Media and its predecessor company, Thomson, is leaving the company in an apparent restructuring. An industry source told Folio: Alert this week that Morris' contract was not renewed. Morris did not respond to e-mail and phone inquiries to his number and address at Source Media. Source CEO Jim Malkin did not respond to inquiries either.

Newsweek has made several staff changes since new editor Jon Meacham came on board Tuesday. Deidre Depke, Mark Miller and Debra Rosenberg were named assistant managing editors. Depke will also retain her role as Newsweek.com's editor. Miller, who left the magazine two years ago, returns as assistant managing editor. Rosenberg was formerly deputy Washington bureau chief for the magazine.

VNU Replaces Board Members, CEO Resigns

Dutch media company VNU NV, which was purchased last month for $9.7 billion by a consortium of private equity firms, replaced all but one member of its Board of Directors with executives from the private equity firms that purchased the company, and said good bye to its CEO at its annual meeting earlier this week, the company announced in a news release.

Canon Communications Ex-CEO Forms New Company

Even as Canon Communications is acquiring a portfolio of Reed shows, former Canon CEO Bill Cobert is starting a new company to seek media-industry acquisitions. The company, called EBITDA Media, has one employee now, Cobert himself. But Cobert says it's likely that he will have at least one acquisition in place in six to 12 months.
