Active Interest Media Buys Yachts Luxury Magazine (posted 10/30)
Active Interest Media Inc. has acquired Yachts magazine, a luxury yachting publication, adding another consumer enthusiast magazine title to Active Interest’s growing portfolio of magazines, consumer shows, books and Internet sites.
Yachts is a ten-year-old, bi-monthly publication with BPA-audited circulation of 49,000. Readers are typically owners of yachts 60 feet in length or more, and ranging upward in price from $2 million to well over $100 million dollars. The magazine has sister editions in France, Croatia, Italy, and Russia.
Active Interest also publishes American Cowboy, Southwest Art, Vegetarian Times, Better Nutrition, Log Home Design, Black Belt, Log Home Living, Timber Home Living, and Building Systems magazines. Last month, the publishing company, which was formed in October 2003 by Efrem "Skip" Zimbalist and the private equity investment firm Wind Point Partners, purchased Yoga Journal. It purchased Yachting Promotions Inc., a producer of five annual boat shows, in March of this year.
Zimbalist is a former CFO at Times Mirror Corporation and CEO of its Times Mirror Magazines subsidiary. Most of the former Times Mirror titles are now owned by Time Inc.’s Time4Media subsidiary, which is for sale. Zimbalist is a bidder on the Time4 titles.
