Wicks’ NewBay Media Hires New CEO to Position Company for Growth
By Marrecca Fiore
Former Scholastic executive Steve Palm is the new CEO of NewBay Media, an affiliate of the Wicks Group of Companies. NewBay Media purchased the 14 magazines, 20 online properties, eight events, and numerous newsletters, supplements and custom products from CMP Entertainment Media, CMP Media and UEMedia last September for an undisclosed price. Tony Keefe, who oversaw the assets when they were owned by CMP and UEMedia, initially joined NewBay as its CEO.
Jamie Weston, partner at the Wicks Group, says Palm, who held several positions at Scholastic, including senior vice president and group publisher for Scholastic Marketing Partners, took over as CEO on Tuesday of this week. "We felt we needed to make a change in order to position the company for growth," says Weston.
Weston says Wicks plans to build out the online assets and create more integrated sales packages for NewBay’s publications, which include the consumer titles Guitar Player, Bass Player, and Keyboard. NewBay also publishes the business-to-business magazines Pro Sound News, Systems Contractor News, Residential Systems, Videography, Government Video, DV, Technology & Learning, and Television Broadcast.
