Wenner Buys Out Disney Stake in Us Weekly
Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner has bought out The Walt Disney Co.’s 50 percent share in gossip magazine Us Weekly for an undisclosed amount, the Associated Press is reporting. Wenner bought the almost 30-year-old publication, launched in 1977 as a bi-monthly, in 1986.
He brought in Disney five years ago and revamped the mag from a monthly to a weekly title in 2000. Us Weekly has doubled its ad pages and increased its circulation from 850,000 to 1.75 million in the years since Wenner’s partnership with Disney began.
