VNU Exploring Possible Sale of its European Publishing Group (posted 10/4)
Months after being purchased by a group of American private equity firms, VNU Group B.V. has announced it is exploring strategic alternatives for its Business Media Europe group, including a “possible sale.” VNU’s New York-based Business Information group, which has “greater synergies with the company’s core marketing and media information activities,” will not be part of a potential sale, the company said in a statement.
The announcement is the latest in a string of changes made at the company, which is home to 45 U.S. publications including Adweek, Billboard and Editor & Publisher, since Valcon Acquisition B.V. purchased it in May for $9.7 billion.
VNU described the European group, which operates as seven wholly owned companies in Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Belgium, as having valuable media properties with online media currently generating 25 percent of its advertising revenue.
VNU’s joint venture with Jaarbeurs – VNU Exhibitions Europe B.V. – which operates in the Netherlands and China, will not be part of a potential sale because “valuable synergies” exist between this group and VNU’s U.S. trade show division, the company said in the statement.
