VNU Changing Name to Nielsen
As first reported by Folio: Alert in November, VNU is changing its name to The Nielsen Company. The change emphasizes the company’s best known brand, said CEO David Calhoun in a statement. The company plans to immediately begin re-branding the company and has changed its Web site to Nielsen.com. The new identity will be rolled out progressively by all Nielsen businesses throughout 2007.
The new name also will reflect the company’s increased focus on marketing and media information services, Calhoun said. The Nielsen brand is best known for its television and other ratings services. Since being bought out by a group of private equity firms last June, the company has made numerous changes to its operations and plans to cut some 4,000 jobs over the next year.
