Vicon Business Media Launches The Evidence Conference
Event is company’s first big venture since Advantage acquisition.
Following its January acquisition by Advantage Business Media, Vicon Business Media has launched The Evidence Conference, a two-day event geared toward readers of the company’s Forensic Magazine and DFI News.
The inaugural conference marks one of the “first big ventures” between Advantage and Vicon, according to Advantage Conference Division’s managing director Patrice Galvin.
“I think the philosophy of our parent company and our CEO Rich Reiff has been that face-to-face meetings are becoming more and more important,” says Galvin. “It’s a component we don’t want to overlook and that we want to expand as a company.”
The conference—geared toward crime scene investigation, labs and digital and mobile forensic professionals—will be held this October at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C., with an exhibition floor of 11,000 square feet. Vicon—now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Advantage—hopes to draw 300-500 attendees and plans to make this an annual show, says Galvin.
The content represents a combination of 15,000-circulation Forensics Magazine, which covers forensic crime scene investigations and labs, and 23,000-circulation DFI News, which serves digital and mobile forensic professionals.
In addition to the newly-launched conference, Galvin says the Advantage acquisition has resulted in an increased digital focus for Vicon, formerly named Vicon Publishing. The company brands have now switched from weekly to daily e-newsletters.
At the time of purchase, Advantage CEO Reiff told FOLIO: that he planned to bring Vicon’s digital revenues more in line with Advantage’s, which account for about 44 percent overall. While Reiff declined to offer terms of the deal, he said that Vicon would increase Advantage’s revenue by about 10 percent.
