Franzen replaces Adrianne Jeffries, who left her role as managing editor last month. Jeffries is now senior editor at The Outline, the yet-to-be-launched media site founded by tech journalist Joshua Topolsky.
Vice News has also hired Nicholas Miriello, who joins from his role as senior international editor at The Huffington Post.

Emily Hazzard and Ned Resnikoff are joining ThinkProgress as senior editors. Hazzard joins from her position as managing editor at the Washington City Paper. Resnikoff previously worked for IBT Media and Al Jazeera America.
Vox has hired Andrew Golis as general manager of Vox.com. He comes to the newly created position after time at Yahoo News, and The Atlantic.
Active Interest Media has named Sharon Houghton group publisher for Backpacker and Climbing. Houghton was promoted from her position as national sales director.
Ruthie Friedlander was named site director of InStyle. She joins the magazine after time at a creative agency. Before that, she worked as deputy director of Elle.com.
Bloomberg Media has hired two. Kibi Anderson joins Bloomberg Digital as head of digital strategy and business development, and Troy Patterson joins Bloomberg Pursuits in the newly created role of style editor.
