Variety Launches Social Networking Site
Publisher claims ‘The Biz’ a first for U.S. entertainment professionals.
Reed Business’ Variety magazine has launched The Biz, a social networking site for media and entertainment professionals.
The new site, launched in partnership with online career network Jobster, serves as an online “meeting place,” the publisher says, for professionals to network, pitch products, exchange ideas and search for jobs. Visitors to the site—which is still in beta—can upload profiles, photos, portfolios, video and other content.
The announcement comes on the heels of Fast Company magazine launching an online networking platform. That site, which parent company Mansueto Ventures says blends journalism with an online community, features user-generated content such as blogs and online discussions.
