Trade Show Growth Healthy, But Print Revenue Dips for Trade Mags
But Digital Growth at 20 Percent, ABM Says
Trade show revenue showed healthy growth—8.1 percent—during the first half of the year, according to a report by the Center for Exhibition Industry Research released last week. But overall print revenue for b-to-b magazines fell 1.4 percent over the same period, according to the Business Information Network.
Gordon Hughes, president and CEO of American Business Media, spins the numbers this way: “With just over eight percent growth in trade shows for the first half of 2007, on top of digital gains, which we estimate at approximately 20 percent, the business media space is clearly migrating beyond the printed page.”
Hughes notes that while overall revenue decline, certain categories experienced “strong growth” likearchitecture, design and lighting (up 11.1 percent) and resources, environment and utilities (up 10.3%).
The telecommunications and software category, however, fell some 18 percent through June.
