CNET’s ‘White Knight’: CBS Acquires Tech Network for $1.8 Billion

Following months of trying to avoid a hostile takeover by hedge fund consortium Jana Partners, CBS said today that it would purchase CNET Networks for $1.8 billion in cash—the equivalent of $11.50 per CNET share, a 45 percent premium on its closing price Wednesday.

NewPage Q1 Revenues Skyrocket 150 Percent

Coated magazine paper manufacturer NewPage Corporation has announced that its first quarter revenues were $1.2 billion, a 150 percent increase from $476 million in the first quarter in 2007, and net income was $7 million, up from a $20 million loss during the same period last year.

Emmis Posts Flat Year-End Revenues

Indianapolis-based Emmis Communications—publisher of regional titles such as Atlanta, Cincinnati and Texas Monthly—today reported its fiscal fourth quarter and year-end (2008) results, with the period ended February 29. Revenues were $361.2 million, flat over the prior year.

Information technology media company TechTarget has released its first quarter financial results with revenues at $23.9 million, up 30 percent over $18.3 million during the same period in 2007. However, the company posted a $112,000 net loss for the quarter.

Quebecor World Reports $2.2B Year-End Loss

After filing for bankruptcy protection earlier this year commercial printer Quebecor World has released its 2007 revenue report. Revenues were $5.7 billion, down 7 percent from $6.1 billion in 2006.

Playboy Reports $3.1M First Quarter Loss

Playboy Enterprises, parent company of Playboy magazine, this morning announced its first quarter 2008 revenues were $78.5 million, down 8 percent over the same period in 2007. The company reported a net loss for the quarter of $3.1 million, down from a $1.5 million profit in 2007.
