Source Merges Accounting Titles
Editor-in-chief: Merger makes us ‘stronger and more efficient.’
Source Media has merged Accounting Technology and Practical Accountant into the group’s flagship title, Accounting Today. The merger is effective after the June issues.
As a result of the merger, three staffers—all from editorial—were let go.
“When you have three books that occupy the same space there are obviously some overlaps,” Accounting Today editor-in-chief Bill Carlino told FOLIO:. Carlino also serves as editorial director of Source’s accounting group.
“We thought it would best serve our readership to move forward with one ‘super-publication’ that features the best content from the three magazines,” he said. “Under one umbrella, we’ll be stronger and more efficient, and be able to better tie in the magazine with our Web portal, WebCPA.com.”
With the merger, Accounting Today’s circulation will jump from 30,000 to 60,000. Its frequency will be reduced from 22 times per year to 18.
Accounting Technology and Practical Accountant both carried circulations of 30,000 and frequencies of 11 times per year.
Jim Callan, who also oversees Source’s benefits titles, will serve as group publisher.
