3rd Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon |
|
ESSENCE held its 3rd annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon during Oscar Week on March 4 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The star-studded event honored Cicely Tyson (Legend Award), Queen Latifah (Power Award), Zoe Saldana (Star to Watch Award), Mary J. Blige (Songstress of the Year) and Gabourey Sidibe (Best Breakthrough Performance). The annual event honors African-American women, who through their work in Hollywood—both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes—have helped to change and inspire positive images of Black women in television and film. Award presenters included Oscar-nominated Avatar director James Cameron, who presented Saldana's award to her. The intimate event also commemorated the 40th Anniversary of ESSENCE magazine as well as ESSENCE magazine’s annual Hollywood issue. Sponsors included presenting sponsor Lincoln, as well as partner sponsors COVERGIRL Queen Collection, MasterCard Worldwide and was supported by Moet & Chandon. |

On Feb.10, Woman’s Day magazine celebrated its 7th annual Red Dress Awards at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. The evening, which was hosted by actress and comedienne Sherri Shepherd and featured performances by Mary J. Blige and Anthony Hamilton, honored those who have made significant contributions in the fight against heart disease and ticket sales benefited the Larry King Cardiac Foundation. |
