SI Swimsuit Issue Features Musical Theme (posted 2/14)
Usually reserved for the likes of supermodels, the cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is being graced by R&B star Beyonce. The wildly successful issue, which hits newsstands this week and typically outsells regular copies of the magazine on the newsstand anywhere from 10 to 20-times over, features a music theme of models posing with pop stars. Last year’s cover featured several past and present supermodels posing topless on the beach.
The February 2006 Swimsuit Issue sold almost 1.2 million newsstand copies. In the first six months of last year, the next highest newsstand seller was Sports Illustrated’s Superbowl XL issue with 117,057 copies sold, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
