Scranton Gillette Buys Rest of Vance’s Decor Division
Deals expands on last year's acquisition of two Vance magazines.
Arlington Heights, Illinois-based Scranton Gillette Communications has purchased the remaining assets of Vance Publishing’s décor media group, which the company shuttered last February.
The deal includes the assets related to Furniture Style magazine, including Home Fashion Forecast, and Design & Décor magazine (formerly Accessory Merchandising). In March 2009, Scranton Gillette bought Vance’s Residential Lighting and Hospital Lighting.
"Scranton Gillette is committed to the home furnishings industry, and the Vance Décor assets will allow us to grow our Design Group to serve that market more thoroughly," said SGC President and CEO Edward S. Gillette in a statement. "We plan to re-launch some of the brands to suit the new realities of the market with digital and print products. Our mission is to be the preferred integrated media vehicle of the home furnishings industry, dedicated to generating compelling content that connects manufacturers to retailers, specifiers and designers."
While b-to-b M&A dropped dramatically in 2009, Scranton Gillette was notably active, entering the health care market with the acquisition of Imaging Technology News and Diagnostic & Invasive Cardiology from the Reilly Communications Group last April.
Scranton publishes several titles, including Water & Waste Digest, Storm Water Solutions and Lawn + Garden Retailer.
