Echoing the steady chant of trade publishers saying events are becoming vital to their core growth, American Business Media’s T-BIN report shows revenue for tradeshows increased 3.2 percent in the first nine months of 2005 when compared to the same period in 2004. Attendance also grew 3.3 percent for the period while square-footage dropped 2.3 percent. While the growth is modest, it’s more ammunition for publishers looking to events to stave off a tepid print advertising climate.
T-BIN includes revenue and attendance figures for the trade shows and exhibitions from the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR), which aggregates trade show figures.
Meanwhile, the M&A market for events continues to be promising. This week, LRP Publications Inc. acquired a pair of human resource outsourcing events;HRO World Conference & Exposition and HRO World Europe;from Outsourcing Today and Unicomm LLC. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. LRP publishes 100-plus newsletters covering education administration, human resources, law and higher education, along with 35 conferences and trade shows.
