Quark Hires New CEO (Posted 11/01)
Quark Inc. announced Wednesday that Raymond Schiavone has been hired as the company’s new president and CEO. Schiavone replaces acting president Linda Chase, who will remain with the company as senior vice president of enterprise products.
Chase had been appointed interim president in June 2005 following the abrupt departure of then-CEO Kamar Aulakh. Aulakh had been in the top job for only 16 months.
Schiavone arrives from Arbortext, Inc., an enterprise publishing software developer, where he was president and CEO. Arbortext was purchased by Needham, Massachusetts-based PTC for a reported $190 million.
Quark, which launched version 7 of its page design application earlier this year, has been locked in a highly publicized rivalry with Adobe and its Creative Suite package. “Over the coming years, our customers will see us not only growing our product line, but also providing additional value through expanded strategic partnerships and focus on customer service and support,” says Schiavone in a statement.
