Meredith Publishing Group has named Amy Simmons as associate publisher of Fitness magazine. Previously, Simmons served as associate publisher of JANE magazine, where she led the sales team to reverse an eight-month decline. Before that, she was advertising director at Men’s Journal.
Former American Business Media executive vice president Claudia Flowers has joined Newton, Massachusetts-based Questex Media Group, Inc. as executive vice president of corporate development. Flowers will be responsible for acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances, and will be based in the New York office.
Damon Hack has been hired as a senior writer at Sports Illustrated. Previously, Hack spent five years covering the PGA Tour and National Football League for the New York Times. He will primarily cover the NFL and golf for Sports Illustrated.
AARP Publications, publisher of AARP The Magazine, has appointed David Singleton as director of publications planning and promotion. In his new role, Singleton will oversee strategic and operational planning for AARP Publications and Books and will direct promotional efforts aimed at raising brand awareness, readership, circulation and book sales. Previously, Singleton worked in marketing at the Bureau of National Affairs.
Paste magazine has announced a pair of personnel changes:
▪ Former Atlanta Journal-Constitution music critic Nick Marino has been named managing editor. Marino has also contributed to titles such as Entertainment Weekly, SPIN, and The Boston Globe.
▪ Jason Killingsworth has been promoted to deputy editor. Previously, he served as music editor.
Penton Media has appointed Josh Cable as editor of its Government Product News brand. Cable will be responsible for implementing Government Product News magazine’s six-point content mission, creating and refining the content strategy for Government Procurement Journal and oversight of e-media content for the group’s publications. Cable joined Penton in 2004 and most recently was managing editor at Occupational Hazards.
Alli McEntyre has been named associate publisher of The Journal of Commerce Shipper Group’s Pacific Shipper magazine. Over the last decade, McEntyre has worked at titles including Fast Company, Circulation Management and Folio:. The Journal of Commerce Shipper Group is a part of East Windsor, New Jersey-based Commonwealth Business Media.
Magazine Publishers of America has promoted Ja-Shin Tsang to director of events. Tsang will supervise the Events team and oversee the execution and planning of MPA events. Previously, she was senior events manager.
