British-born Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey has been named to the Officer class of the Order of the British Empire, an honor that Queen Elizabeth II or Prince Charles will personally deliver to recognize her services to British journalism and British fashion in the United States. She is one of 18 other honored officers of the Order of the British Empire announced with the Queen's 2008 New Year Honours list.

Since Bailey was named editor-in-chief of Bazaar in May 2001, newsstand sales have increased by 38 percent and the magazine has received a number of awards, including a 2007 Lucie Award for Fashion Layout of the Year and one from ASME for Best Fashion Cover in 2007.

Before joining Bazaar, Bailey was editor-in-chief of the U.S. Marie Claire for five years, during which Adweek named her editor of the year in March 2001 for her "innovative, expansive and democratic approach" to editing a fashion and beauty magazine.

In 1988, Bailey launched British Marie Claire and served as its editor-in-chief for eight years, during which the magazine became the biggest-selling fashion magazine in the U.K., according to publisher Hearst Publications. There, Bailey won three Magazine Editor of the Year Awards, five Magazine of the Year Awards, and two Amnesty International Awards.
