Penton Media has promoted Greg Frey to vice president of its agriculture group. Previously, Frey served as group publisher of Penton’s crop publications.

Ladies’ Home Journal has promoted Sage Edson and Valerie Theil to co-ad directors. Edson and Theil had served as New York manager and Midwest manager, respectively.

Former BusinessWeek writer Kathleen Madigan has been named a columnist for Dow Jones & Co. At Dow Jones, Madigan will write the “Big Picture” column. She begins August 11.

Online photo service Getty Images has named Caroline Andoscia vice president of communications. Most recently, Andoscia served as managing director of Bluecurrent Public Relations.

In an expansion of its technology coverage, online magazine Slate has named Farhad Manjoo as a columnist. Manjoo’s twice-weekly column will cover how technology affects politics, business, culture and society, as well as new gadgets, products and trends.

Inform Technologies has named Josh Kirschner chief marketing officer. Kirschner most recently served as senior vice president of global product development at Marsh Inc.
