Private equity firm Boston Ventures has acquired Oakstone Publishing from parent company Haights Cross Communications. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Oakstone is a strong company that has suffered somewhat from lack of investment,” said Boston Ventures principal Matt Kinsey in a statement. “We believe we can accelerate growth by providing resources and support that will let management expand Oakstone’s reach.”

Oakstone publishes newsletters, brochures, audio books and other materials for physicians, educators and human resource professionals in the medical and wellness fields. “We plan to leverage Boston Ventures’ experience in the publishing sector to grow the two segments of Oakstone’s business,” said Elizabeth Granville-Smith, a managing director at Boston Ventures.

Boston Ventures owns a number of publishing properties, including New Track Media, publisher of special interest consumer magazines Sky and Telescope and American Woodworker, and NorthStar Travel Media, publisher of travel and hospitality trade publications.
