National Geographic Launches Green Consumer Guide
Quarterly publication not for ‘enviromaniacs.’
National Geographic is entering the ‘green’ movement with the launch of its National Geographic Green Guide. The magazine says the new quarterly publication, which will first be published in March, is devoted to helping consumers develop smarter, greener behavior.
The guide will feature information on products, companies and trends that will help consumers make more informed decisions about products and lifestyles, the company says. According to the National Geographic Green Guide executive editor Seth Bauer, the publication is "written for general consumers, not for enviromaniacs," and is "broken down into achievable steps that make ‘going green’ a gradual and affordable process rather than an all-or-nothing plunge."
The National Geographic Green Guide will be printed on Verso Paper stock that carries the FSC Mixed Source Label, meaning the wood used comes from Forest Stewardship Council-certified forests and/or recycled paper. The publication will also be available digitally through Texterity. The guide will be printed by Sussex, Wisconsin-based Quad/Graphics, which has registered its 10 core U.S. printing plants for the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
