MPA To Launch Recycling Campaign (posted 3/6/07)
Magazine Publishers of America is launching a recycling initiative consisting of two pro-recycling logos that will begin appearing on magazines later this year, MPA president and CEO Nina Link announced today at the annual Retail Conference in Orlando, Florida.
The two logos will read “Please Recycle This Magazine” and “Please Remove Samples or Inserts Before Recycling,” the latter to be used in issues that include CDs, samples, or other non-paper inserts. MPA recommends the logo appear in each issue of MPA-member publications in a “consistent and easy-to-find position” such as the masthead or table of contents, according to Link.
Link explained to conference members that the two logos will deliver a clear message to readers who don’t realize that magazines are recyclable. She also urged the magazine industry to print on more certified paper. “Certified paper is harvested in a responsible and sustainable way,” she said. “There are several credible certification programs available to paper manufacturers and we need to let our suppliers know that this is a priority for our industry.”
