Magazine Trade Show Sales Heat Up in August, May Cool in Fall
The market for magazine trade show mergers and acquisitions had a fiery August, with five deals closed last month, but will likely slow in the fall, according to CSmergers.com.
The largest transaction tracked was the sale of HMP Communications – home to healthcare-related trade shows — to former Cygnus Business Media executives Paul Mackler and Ken Fisher.
“I expect that the activity for the rest of this year will slow down quite a bit, but there will be a continuation of several smaller sized transactions,” says CSMergers.com president Nick Curci. “There is certainly a slow down of larger deals in the short term due to all the credit and financing issues currently effecting the financial markets. There is also a lack of quality trade and consumer events available for sale.”
Valuations are also ticking down, according to Curci.
