Magazine and Trade Show Deal Value Climbs 75 Percent in 2006 (posted 1/30)
The number of magazine and trade show deals totaled 114 in 2006, a 41 percent increase over the 81 deals completed in 2005, according to data released this week from M&A advisory firm Whitestone Communications. And deal value last year totaled $5.8 billion, up 75 percent from $3.3 billion in 2005.
Last year’s robust deal market is part of a two-year-trend of increased activity and value, Whitestone said. In 2005, the number of deals was up 50 percent over the 54 deals done in 2004, and the value of deals, $3.3 billion, was up significantly from 2004’s total deal value of $916.5 million.
Whitestone named VNU’s $10.3 billion deal as the biggest trade magazine deal in 10 years, but excluded it from its total deal value calculations because of its "unusually" large size. For more on Whitestone’s assessment of the 2006 magazine and trade show deal market, see Thursday’s Folio: Alert.
