iBuildApp Offers Free (For Now) App For Digital Publishing on iPad
App will monetize through premium package for publishers.
Rafael Soultanov, CEO of iBuildApp, is ready to bring digital magazine publishing to the masses.
With this free app, users who want to create a digital magazine for the iPad can do so without the help of an IT team. Users upload images, video and content and choose a template (there are currently three templates available with iBuildApp, with more on the way this upcoming week). The magazine is then ready to be published. If the publisher wishes to monetize the magazine, there are also options to upload advertisements. If the publisher wishes to sell issues through iTunes, they must use their own account to do so.
An online editor that helps edit content and format is included in the app as well.
Once the magazine is published, users can enter into the app anytime through the iBuildApp website and update content real time.
Though the app is currently without price tag, Soultanov has plans to monetize his product by the end of May. Soultanov said, “We’ll charge [publishers] for subscriptions for premium features. There will be more social network features, so readers can share content, rate and publishers will be able to archive past issues. The subscription will be a few hundred dollars on a yearly basis.”
The premium model will also feature more templates and personalization options, as well as a “GPS-like” tool that will allow publishers to see where users are coming from. Soultanov sees this as yet another way to personalize publications, adapting advertisements and coupons to reader demographics.
The iBuildApp will be integrated with CMS platforms like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla.
Soultanov said, “We believe that a digital magazine or newspaper should feel like a media app, not like a magazine reader.”
