Hearst Spins Off Bill-Paying Service
Offers free content management system.
The Hearst Corporation has launched the beta version of Manilla, a free personal account management system. George Kliavkoff has been named CEO of the service that allows consumers to securely link bank accounts, view statements, pay bills and manage subscriptions through one account.
Manilla aims to rid its users of paper mail, hoping to eliminate the reported “48 billion account notices, statements, offers and bills to their customers every year.”
The service collects all of a customer’s online bill-paying account information—including documentation—into a single interface. Status updates help users schedule and pay their bills for their utility, credit card, insurance and, yes, subscription providers.
The service competes with USPS in its mission of converting consumers to paperless bill paying. Consequently, Manilla can also be said to be going head-to-head with banks, which have their own online payment and account services.
Manilla is touting its “everyday” access to the universe of Hearst’s magazine, newspaper and TV audience.
