Hanley Wood LLC announced today the purchase of two VNU Business Media titles, Architecture and Architectural Lighting. Architecture will be merged into Hanley Wood’s newest launch, Architect, which debuts in October, the company said in a statement. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Architect will use the "language of design" to appeal to its audience and ward-winning designer Abbott Miller of Pentagram will create the magazine’s graphics, according to the company’s statement. Hanley Wood will launch www.architectonline.com to coincide with the magazine’s launch.
Architect will focus on the commercial construction industry and cater to aspects of the commercial market that are not currently being served, said Peter Goldstone, president of Hanley Wood Business Media. "The launch of Architect, along with the acquisition of Architectural Lighting, accelerates our strategy to expand aggressively into the non-residential/commercial market," he said.
Architect and Architectural Lighting will be part of Hanley Wood’s commercial design group under the direction of group publisher Patrick J. Carroll. Hanley Wood publishes 28 residential and commercial construction titles including Builder, Remodeling and Residential Architect.
