Former Cygnus President Out of Full-Time Role
Mike Martin becomes consultant; publisher Kevin Bergeron out as well.
Former Cygnus Business Media president Mike Martin–who became executive vice president of the Cygnus Public Safety & Security group after the president position was eliminated in February–will now give up his full-time role and become a consultant with the b-to-b publisher. Martin became president of the Cygnus in 2007.
Scott Bieda, who joined Cygnus in April as vice president of sales for Fire/EMS/Security, will take over as publisher of the Public Safety & Security group
"I started with Cygnus as an assistant editor," Martin wrote in a memo to Cygnus staff. "I’ve invested more than half of my life with this great company and have had – and will continue to have – the opportunity to work with this company’s very talented, progressive media professionals. I have a lot of motivations, some very personal to me, but at least one that I hope I have shared with many of you over the past few years. Not that long ago, plenty of people outside of this organization were preparing a grave site for Cygnus, and writing epitaphs that were not only premature, but undeserved. We’ve made great strides in the past two years in building a new Cygnus, proving our detractors wrong. I want to see this through, and will, in my new role."
Meanwhile, Kevin Bergeron-publisher of OEM Off-Highway–is also out, replaced by Nancy Terrill, publisher of Sustainable Construction and Concrete Contractor.
In June, Cygnus merged its Aviation group into the Diversified Portfolio group, which includes a variety of brands serving several different verticals that don’t fit in the company’s three core affinity groups: Agriculture, Construction and Public Safety & Security. Some of the Diversified brands include Mass Transit, The CPA Technology Advisor and Food Logistics.
Cygnus eliminated the positions held by executive vice president Patrick Nadler and vice president of marketing Charla Sheffield as part of that move, and separately, eliminated the position of senior vice president, Expositions, held by Rob Brice.
