Rock to Run Again for ABC Seat
David Rock is once again, campaigning for a seat on the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Last fall, he unsuccessfully contested the seat held by Peter Armour. It was the first time in 14 years Armour had been challenged.
Even though he didn’t win, his action sent shockwaves through the circulation world, exposing frustration over recent circulation scandals and an ABC board of directors that was allegedly complacent and deaf to day-to-day challenges circulators face. Rock, who works for Ziff Davis, recently sent out a letter to his colleagues asking for their support.

CRMA Names New President
The City & Regional Magazine Association has elected group publisher of Diablo magazine, Barney Fonzi, president of the association. For the past 21 years, Fonzi has worked for the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based publisher. Diablo magazine serves the San Francisco East Bay community.
Jeffery Goldberg, associate publisher of Memphis magazine, was named vice president, and Boston publisher Paul Reulbach will serve as secretary-treasurer.
ABM, Proximity to Hold Free Fax Rules Webinar
In light of the newly revised fax rules and regulations, American Business Media has teamed up with Proximity Marketing to host a free web seminar for publishers. The Webinar will be held next Thursday, August 17 at 2 p.m. EST and will offer publishers advice on how to use fax for circulation and marketing efforts legally and responsibly. Speakers include David Straus, legal expert from ABM; Proximity’s fax marketing specialist, Nancy Mills; and Barry Green Hearst Communications’ vice president of circulation.

Boston Globe Media Launches New Shelter Title
Design New England: The Magazine for Splendid Homes and Gardens is the newest launch from the Boston Globe’s publishing division, Boston Globe Media. The glossy title will be published six times per year and is set to launch in October. It will feature the architecture and gardens of homes throughout New England, as well as information regarding designers throughout the region.
Former CMO magazine publisher, Steve Twombly will come on board as publisher, overseeing the new staff. The magazine’s editor, Jill Connors, has also worked for This Old House, American HomeStyle, and Decorating Remodeling.
Create Magazine Expands Markets
Orlando, Fla.-based Create Magazine is expanding its market throughout the country. Beginning in October, the quarterly will expand its circulation from the existing 16 markets to 45 national markets and will be printed in five unique editions.
The magazine is expected to have a circulation of 270,000 and will hit newsstands October 1, covering the Southeast, Southwest, West Coast, Northeast and Midwest regions.
XTreme Publishing Launches New RV Title
California-based Xtreme Publishing Group will launch a new recreational vehicle enthusiast magazine in 2007 titled RV Xtreme Magazine. The January premiere issue is slated to hit newsstands December 1 and will feature information on new model RVs and related RV products.
