CNNMoney Online Launches Lux Channel
CNNMoney.com, the official Web site of Time Inc. business and finance titles including Fortune, Fortune Small Business, Business 2.0 and Money magazines, has launched a luxury channel for readers who have a high interest in reading about luxury items in addition to hard news. The channel will have a fixed promotion spot on the eCNNMoney.com homepage and will feature photo galleries and video.
Greenspun Media Acquires Latin-Market Rage Productions
Henderson, Nevada-based Greenspun Media Group has acquired Rage Productions, a media company that includes television program Remix TV and RMXTV.com, the program’s Web site. Remix TV targets young Latinos aged 18 to 35 and is available in eight US markets. Rage operations have relocated to Henderson to operate as part of Greenspun’s business expansion in Internet media. Rage plans to develop new Latino culture programming offerings as well as contribute content to Greenspun’s Web sites.
New Magazine to Launch for ‘Tweens’
DIC Entertainment, Geffen Records and Poets Road have launched a new brand for "tweens" called Kewl. The Kewl brand will include a free, quarterly magazine to be distributed nationwide in retail outlets such as Claire’s, FYE, Sam Goody, Skechers, Suncoast and Toys ‘R Us.
The 500,000 circulation magazine, also titled Kewl, will focus on celebrity and music. The magazine will be used as a launchpad for a television show, Everything Kewl, and an interactive Web site kewlmag.com. The magazine’s advertisers will include Bonne Bell, Skechers and Proactiv, and its promotional partners will include ABC, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.
Marketer, Custom Publisher McMurry Acquires inOne Advertising & Public Relations
Phoenix, Arizona-based McMurry Communications, a marketing and custom media company, has acquired inOne Advertising & Public Relations of Fountain Hill, Arizona. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition will add six staff members to the McMurry team and will bring the company 20 new clients in the golf, travel, tourism and real estate industries including Billy Casper Golf Management, San Luis Obispo County, Cielo Phoenix and The Club at La Costa.
inOne was established in 1999 as a golf marketing agency and expand into other areas in 2004 when Tom Garrett became president. Following the merger, Garrett will become vice president of client services for McMurry and will oversee both the account management and public relations teams.
Air & Space Launches Reader Scrapbook Online
Air & Space/Smithsonian has launched a new online "Reader Scrapbook" on its Web site. The magazine asked readers to submit photos related to aviation or spaceflight that might be stored away in closets or attics. More 150 submissions have come in thus far; a sampling is online at airspacemag.com/scrapbook. Visitors to the site are encouraged to e-mail their photographs to the magazine for inclusion in the online scrapbook, which will be updated regularly.
Maximum PC Relaunches Web Site
Future US’s Maximum PC magazine has relaunched their web site to target high-end PC and tech enthusiasts on the Web. The site will keep its reader forums, magazine archive and podcast features while adding exclusive content include daily updates, news and blogs from editors.
The Week Publishes Special E-Green Issue
News and opinion magazine, The Week has partnered with luxury car company Lexus to publish the magazine’s first-ever online-only "green" issue recognizing Earth Day on Friday, April 20. The special issue will be fully underwritten by Lexus and will be electronically available to readers as a special subscription bonus. Content will include standard editorial features with selected features focusing on the environment. Lexus will be the exclusive advertiser.
Couples Magazine Launches Web TV Series
Toronto, Canada-based title 2: The Magazine for Couples celebrates its third anniversary with the launch of web TV version of its popular couples magazine makeover section. The magazine has teamed up with Viral Media Group to produce the reality-based series that will feature nine new episodes each quarter. The series will be available on iTunes, YouTube, Veoh, Revver, blip.tv, brightcove.com, Metacafe.com and on the Viral Media Web site.
PROMO Launches Online Trivia Game
Penton Media marketing and promotion title PROMO has launched a branded advertising trivia game for marketing executives online at promomarketerschallenge.com. The game will test marketers on recent marketing campaigns, famous products and launches, marketing terms and practices and promotional tactics. Players can track their high scores, challenge other players and compete to win prizes. The game was created by interactive promotion agency Launchfire, based in Ottawa, Canada.
