Domtar Launches Web Site for Design, Paper Tips
Paper manufacturer Domtar of Palo Alto, California has launched DomtarDesignerCorner.com, a Web site offering designers industry news and events, designer profiles, eco-smart design options and tips for selecting paper. The site will also feature a series of articles called Tips on Paper, which will be provided by PaperSpecs, an online provider of paper knowledge to the design and print industries.
PaperSpecs also offers registered members an online catalog of its most recently released swatchbooks and shows members how to order complimentary swatchbooks directly from paper mills, as well as how to assemble swatchbooks for client projects.
Stora Enso Launches New Paper for Water Bottles, Announces Sales Appointments
Stora Enso Speciality Papers has launched EcoSet, a new, wet-strength label paper, designed to meet the rising market demand for water bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate, a recyclable synthetic fiber. EcoSet, which be manufactured at Stora Enso’s Stevens Point, Wisconsin-based plant, offers label performance with the sustainable packaging advantages of paper.
EcoSet is offered in basis weights of 43 lb., 46 lb. and 49 lb., and features a high-fidelity print surface for artwork reproduction, and wet-strength label properties for dependable printing, die-cutting, labeling and product distribution processes.

Convera Launches Beta Phase of Vertical Search Program
Vienna, Virginia-based Convera Corp. has launched the beta phase of its Convera Publisher Control Panel, a search service that enables print and online publishers to add, manage and refine their vertical search capabilities to develop search-based revenues for their Web sites.
Convera Publisher Control Panel is available for customers of Convera’s hosted vertical search service that provides a customized search engine for content publishers serving professional markets.
Future features will offer publishers the ability to manage site advertising, boost the ranking of the content based on time, popularity, authority and the relevance of individual sites; site and search analytics tools; and the capability to customize the look and feel of the user interface to best fit the needs of the online communities they serve.

PROOF-it-ONLINE Selected to Support Printing Services of Apollo Press
PROOF-it-ONLINE, a provider of online proofing and approval management technology, has been selected by Apollo Press, a full-service print manufacturer, as its online proofing technology partner. Apollo will deploy PROOF-it-ONLINE’s Agility solution to streamline the proof approval process for its high-volume forms printing operations. Agility is designed to meet the specific proof approval needs of enterprise-level companies requiring a high-volume, integrated, custom approval technology.
Aquent Acquires American Graphics Institute
Marketing and creative staffing firm Aquent has acquired the American Graphics Institute, a firm that provides training, consulting, and support related to print, Web, video, and mobile publishing. AGI has been renamed Aquent Graphics Institute. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition allows AGI to expand its services to Boston-based Aquent’s global network of clients, and provides Aquent’s clients with a training resource in the creative publishing field, Aquent said in a statement. AGI offers classes for all Adobe software applications including Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator and Acrobat.
The Scan Group Adds Web to Printing Services
The Scan Group of Waukesha, Wisconsin is now offering its clients web printing services using the Kodak Nexpress 2100 Plus Digital Production Color Press. The Scan Group already provides variable data, short-run color and other digital printing services. It also provides design, photography, illustration, composition, prepress, large format, digital asset, print, finishing and mailing solutions. Kodak’s Nexpress is capable of serving the needs of both entry-level and high-volume clients.
