Report: Exhibition Industry Losses Not as Bad as Last Year
Slow growth anticipated through remainder of 2010.
The exhibition industry continued to decline through the first quarter of 2010 but the losses slowed considerably compared to the fourth quarter last year. Through the first three months, the overall industry declined 4 percent versus to the same period in 2009, according to the latest report from the Center for Exhibition Industry Research. That’s compared to the 11.6 percent decline the industry experienced during the fourth quarter last year.
Revenues, meanwhile, declined 8.4 percent across the exhibitions industry—an improvement over the 19.7 percent revenue falloff during the same period in 2009. “It is anticipated that slow growth will continue through 2010,” American Business Media reports.
Declines in attendance also slowed, decreasing .2 percent during the first quarter, the report says. In 2009, attendance fell 4.1 percent. Total event space sold, measured in net square feet, slid 6.2 percent during the period. Still, it represents an improvement over the 14.8 percent decline at the same time in 2009.
