Ex-F+W CEO’s New Venture Buys Sky
Founded in 1941, Sky Publishing’s assets include Sky & Telescope and Night Sky, Web sites, books and related products. The company, headed by president and publisher Susan Lit, will continue to operate out of its offices in Cambridge, with plans to relocate to new offices in the Boston area within the next year.
For Cincinnati-based New Track Media, the deal is part of a "broader plan that calls for building a portfolio of consumer enthusiast properties, not all science-related, and largely through acquisition," according to a release announcing the deal.
In August 2005, F+W was sold to Boston-based ABRY Partners for $500 million in a now-controversial deal. In November, ABRY Partners LLC has filed suit against Providence Equity Partners, Inc. alleging it had overpaid for the enthusiast publisher.
