Ellegirl.com to Broadcast Video Series ‘The Prom Queen’ (posted 3/13)
Call it a soap opera for screenagers. A new video series featuring “love, gossip and betrayal” is set to broadcast on Ellegirl.com next month. “The Prom Queen,” billed as a mystery set against the final two months of the school year, will chronicle “all of the twists and turns of high school leading up to the biggest night of any senior’s life: prom night.”
Ellegirl.com is not only broadcasting the series, produced by Internet studio Vuguru, a division of former Disney CEO Michael Eisner’s company, The Tornate, it’s also a sponsor of it. Other sponsors include FIJI Water, POM Wonderful (Pomegranate Juice and POM Tea) and Teleflora.com.
Prom Queen’s 90-second, short-form episodes are designed to be viewed on multiple platforms and are aimed at young, early adopters of new media content and technology. The production also offers unique opportunities for advertisers to reach viewers. In addition to its sponsors, the series has apparel “relationships” with Victoria’s Secret Pink, Jessica McClintock, People’s Liberation, and HotKiss. Viewers can purchase styles shown while watching the episodes through a partnership with StarStyle.com.
The scripted series, which will premiere on Ellegirl.com on April 2, is to be broadcast over more than 80 episodes. “This partnership enables us to reach beyond our traditional coverage and indulge what has always been our readers’ calling card: a healthy sense of playfulness about fashion, particularly around mainstream events like prom,” said Marta Wohrle, Hachette’s senior vice president and director of digital media, in an e-mail statement.
