Lauren Brown is the special projects editor for Quartz, where she manages reporters, works on commissioning stories from outside experts, leads special projects, and helps to shape editorial strategy.
She's one of the founding editors of Quartz and was previously the site's Deputy Ideas Editor. Brown has also worked at Business Insider, WorldNow, and Wiley.
As one of Quartz's founding editors, she helped create the “ideas team,” which was the most trafficked section of qz.com for the first two years. She was responsible for several viral pieces about education, parenting and also oversaw Quartz's first official “special project,” The QZ Gift Guide, which included suggestions for gifts from the likes of Katie Couric, Richard Branson, and Melinda Gates.
During her fight against breast cancer, Brown continued her work at Quartz and was promoted to Special Projects Editor. She is now responsible for the creation of new obsessions, editorial projects, and collaborating with other departments at Quartz. She has written about her experience with breast cancer, which was well received by both medical professionals and other readers.
Brown has been a featured speaker at Sciences Po in Paris, taught classes about digital engagement at General Assembly, and judged the Society of Business Editors and Writers competition. Brown also cares about challenging and supporting the people that she works with and elevating important voices and ideas at the company.
