Breaking News: Postal Reform Bill Passes
The United States Senate today unanimously has approved bill S.662, joining the U.S. House of Representatives, which approved its version of postal reform legislation last summer. Next a House-Senate conference will try to hammer out differences between the two bills.
Organizations such as Magazine Publishers of America and the Direct Marketing Association were both quick to praise the Senate for passing the bill. “Much remains to be done,” said MPA president Nina Link in a statement. “The House-Senate Conference that is about to begin will shape the final outcome of the reform effort that MPA and so many others have worked on for so long. The need for this legislation remains compelling.”
While passage of the bill is the first step to postal reform, some observers are wondering if the White House will attempt to get the conference committee to make sure the bill is budget-neutral.
