After plateauing at just over $60,000 from 2009 to 2011, art directors saw salaries rise for the second year in a row. A year-over-year increase of 6 percent put average compensation at $70,700.

While executives in the production department got their biggest raises in 5 years, salaries declined for managers. As a group, pay decreased 3 percent to $59,600. Categories related to experience were the only ones to see major drop-offs though. Most saw minor shifts.
Compensation for those at the top of the production department rose 15 percent to $96,100 in 2013, respondents said. The gains weren’t evenly distributed though. There were stark dividing lines in several categories as, relatively, the rich got richer and the poor got poorer.
